Thank You

I have been wanting to write a thank you or reflection about this past semester for a while now. I must say that it was the most wonderful, challenging, exciting, and exhausting semesters I have ever had. One of the best achievements for me as a designer was the feeling of confidence in my design knowledge and skills. I had the great privilege to work with some of the best teachers (ever). I know this letter is a bit late, but I think my mind needed some time to relax after the business from the end of the semester. I was so proud of my classmates that I had the opportunity to listen to for sophomore reviews and to have all of the faculty including Kathy McCoy was amazing. It was such a great thing for me to really get to listen to all of the good, bad, improvements, and critiques that they had for me. I think it was a great end to the year, but also inspiration for the next and for this summer. I noticed certain aspects about myself and who I am as a designer that I would have probably never have truly noticed without this process. 
So thank you to Jamie, Marty, Tyler, Kidwell, Chris, and Kathy!

Hippie Museum Identity

This project was such a great challenge for me in so many ways. Peace, Love, & Free Spirit is the title I ended up with after many iterations. I think that peace and love are often used to represent the hippies and with the third phrase I felt that free spirit could represent the hippies and relate to a vast audience. I explored how just using icons can really take on a whole identity. I used my icons to inspire my formal decisions then using color and shape. I focused a lot of attention to photographs. I think photographs represent this culture and what they were all about successfully. I decided to try and really push my merchandise because I felt that I had a lot of opportunity to really go far with it. I did a lot of t-shirt designs as well as bags. I let my icons and title lead the way for placement on my merchandise as well as my banners and wall. This project taught me a lot about identity and how to make a series of items feel like one complete thought.

Hippie Museum Exhibit: Updates

These are the latest iterations of my hippie museum exhibit identity.  I changed my title a bit to something more simple. I really liked the word liberation, but A Free Spirit is simple and fits the culture just as well.  I incorporated color overlays in my banner which better integrates the icon and image together. 

Some "Hip" Inspiration

In my History of Graphic Design class the last lectured consisted of posters from the  60s. We talked of Wes Wilson and Rick Griffen. They are both creators of what we think of today of very lucid, lava like type. Wes Wilson's work is unlike any other. His work and creation of this very well reconized type is found and replicated on many others posters as well.  Rick Griffen is also a illustrator from the 60s who created the famous album covers for the Greatful Dead as well as comics during this time.

>>Above I have the museum banners, the web page banner, the exhibit signage, bags, and then t-shirt designs. This part of the process was very enjoyable for me. I wanted to experiment with a bunch of different compositions, colors, and typefaces to really see what works and what doesn't and then taking what is working from each and combining them.
